“This is a fantastic opportunity to achieve two of our primary objectives: continued long term funding for schools from timber harvest while maintaining access for the public.”
- Mary Sexton, Director, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation

“We take for granted that these lands are open for public access—and people use them all the time.  If we could permanently secure our public access on these lands, if we could preserve the status quo of what we all know and love, this would be a huge win.”
- Melanie Parker
, environmental educator in the Swan Valley and Director, Northwest Connections

Thiseffort aims to conserve around 320,000 acres (as shown below) of important forestland currently owned by Plum Creek Timber Company in northwestern Montana.

TheTrust for Public Land and The Nature Conservancy have reached an agreement to purchase the land from Plum Creek. The goals of this project are to:
* Keep sustainable harvesting operations in the forests, and timber in our mills
* Conserve traditional access for hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and hiking
* Preserve vital wildlife habitat and water resources
